So every year around this time we have a huge flare-up of family drama. Sister and I are stressed, Mom is crying, and Wife is angry. But a couple of years ago Lena discovered a solution to all of that. We open our presents a week into December and ignore (almost) everyone else. We get our own Christmas with just the two of us… before all the problems start with everyone else so we can completely enjoy ourselves, and for the rest of the season we can just sit back and look at the pretty lights.
The day before Christmas my brother and sister come over to the house and we have a relaxed party, just the four of us. (Unless someone’s dating this year!) It’s fun and we all laugh a lot and have a good time being in one another’s company. It’s the kind of family time you look forward to.
(You can tell because nobody’s crying.)
