The Tuesday Videos: A Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

by Kevin Pettway on December 13, 2011

I know how some of you hate it when I theme these things, but Christmas is on the way and I’ve built up a LOT of videos to get through. This week is all Star Wars… specifically all Star Wars Holiday Special. That’s right, the long decried and nearly as long denied (by Lucas) TV special that Georgie Boy made back when he was certain that Star Wars was going to flop is here for you to watch in all its grisly glory. For those of you out there who have never seen it and wondered, “How could anything possibly be as bad as all that?” let me just say that you are in for a treat of awfulness. It’s not boring, exactly, but it IS weird and exceedingly off-brand.

On the other hand, it really does explain the prequel trilogy, as a mind who could devise something like this would undoubtedly be capable of nearly any depth of banality. (Kid of unfair since Lucas didn’t have much to do with it. And hey! Introduction of Boba Fett!)

So… uh… enjoy!

(The whole thing is pretty long. Feel free to watch a little and come back later, after you’ve salted your eyes.)

OK, would put these on a playlist for later myself, if it wasn’t banned for germany…

Kevin Pettway December 13, 2011 at 9:55 am

What the hell is wrong with Germany? (Or rather, what the hell is wrong with the US that we can’t have our stupid videos viewable in Germany?)

The american way of suing eveybody perhaps?

Thanks. I’ve always wanted to see this. I’m not sure why.
But I thought Lucas still insisted this WAS canon, just like the two Ewok World TV movies.

I don’t think so… although I could be wrong. He spent years completely denying it and pretending it never even happened. Who could blame him for that?

I’ve only gone through part 1 so far.

It says much about the (lack of) Wookie (sp?) culture that they find recordings of human gymnastic dance routines entertaining.

Kevin Pettway December 13, 2011 at 2:21 pm

I think that the less said about wookie culture the better.

Who are you trying to hurt more by this, Lucas or your readers?

Kevin Pettway December 14, 2011 at 8:18 am

My intention was never to hurt anyone, AC… only to provide them with the tools to hurt themselves. :)

I have had a child explain to me an internet meme that seems appropriate to describing my reaction to this response. That meme (as adjusted for this case):
Kevin Pettway uses smartass dodging of the question! It was super cheap!

Have that kid send me an email to explain your answer! :D

My brain feels funny after watching 4 episodes… I don’t think that is good.

Kevin Pettway December 14, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Funny-brain is wonderful. Have many fun playing in your brains!
