I have yet to see this Twilight-thing and after the guy that plays the vamp in the movies slammed it well and hard into the ground as total and utter shite, i’ll give it a full miss.
I haven’t seen it either, and don’t care to. It’s just so far out of my range of interests, even if the posters imply it’s choke full of nice-looking gay twinks in bad pale makeup(well the makeup part isn’t as part of “my thing” as the rest is).

Not at all. Players typing on [place electronic device here] during DM exposition is normal – at least it is in the game I participate in.
I feared my phrasing would be misunderstood and it has- by “his own” I meant the DM’s laptop, which is the only way he could alter the module on said laptop.

Anyone wants a detailed layout of the base and good timing for assault? I recommend Friday evening at around 18:00-18:15, that’s when the scant few guards(everyone else is home, it’s an “open base”) are at the mess-hall, apart from just one guy at the gate , and the mess-hall is halfway across from it.
Also included are locations for the huge above-ground fuel tanks(fuel-supplying base), located conveniently close to the fence, and oil and fuel sheds.
What? It’s not like I was planning something here.

I try not to be that level of jerk. Making a joke about suppositories here–like the comparatively tame, “Maybe she likes taking the DM’s penis as a suppository too?” for instance–would be more disgusting than some people who read this comic apparently would like.
I don’t get it. I mean, I know what a suppository is, and I understand about the penis, but I don’t get the funny thing about it. To me it sounds not so different than just saying “maybe she likes his penis up her behind*”, which doesn’t make for much of a joke in these circumstances. Is it a reference to something else?

Actual term is cracking but most of the world thinks it’s hacking despite that term actually meaning something rather different to serious IT professionals. If you want to know more look up the definition of hacking and cracking in Eric S. Raymond’s references.

Eh, I’m of the thought that a word means whatever most people think it means. One English teacher was telling me about all these formerly non-words that have been added to the dictionary over the years after so many people were using them. Then he was saying how he was waiting for a common mistake to finally appear in the dictionaries so he could stop marking it wrong on so many papers.
Generally yes, cracking is bypassing or breaking security restrictions. Since Martin isn’t an authorized password holder that would be bypassing.

Sorry, there is a distinction between people who use technical tricks like brute force password guessing or memory overflow tricks to acquire access and people who use social engineering tricks like phishing webpages and just bald con-man style asking for passwords and pretending you have a right to get them to acquire access. That distinction is one that is not made in the terminology of cracking since the end result is the same: The security is compromised in both cases.
The terminology difference is that individual techniques of technical tricks are classified under technical names and cracks which rely on cheating the users, and admins and user-level features in a non-technical way (like making password reset requests with a stolen login ID to get a password and account that’s not yours) are called social engineering.
“Social engineering” sounds more like what totalitarian regimes like to do, which is unsurprising, since it’s got “social” in it, like socialism has. Evil, evil socialism.
Yeah, social engineering is a term I’d use for the way the Koch industries people created the teabagger movement in order to destroy all remaining environmental and legal barriers preventing them from doing offshore oil drilling off American coasts as cheaply and halfassedly as they could dream… but that would be socio-political engineering and we were talking about computer security.

As a concept or ideal, yea, it’s great…but when you try to enforce it on a species that behaves almost opposite to it as part of its evolutionary “hard-wiring”, some “minor” problems are bound to rise.
So those people who’ve already seen several examples of such inevitable failures but still desire to confine humans to such a system are either dangerously delusional in their belief and high ideals, or just plain evil and power-hungry, usually the later, IMO, but the result is still the same.
But regardless, my main reason for mentioning how evil, evil socialism is is because I find it funny. And the fools who think themselves intellectually and spiritually superior(and soooo cool too!) for advocating it amuse me.

Taxes ARE “swiping plastic”(I’m guessing that means credit cards)- you pay the government and it arranges all those services because you paid for them, there’s no altruism here.
Just like you pay your internet provider to arrange everything for you instead of laying the pipes and cords yourself, installing satellites etc.
Just about everything is bought by your money, whether it’s a specific product/service you specifically want or something that’s included in your gov’s “tax-package”.
Sure, there are some loonies going around giving to charity(mostly by leeching it from others, stealing a bit for themselves and pressing the rest to the needy so they won’t get accused of embezzlement), saying it’s altruism, but it’s mostly to appease their imaginary sky-buddy(AKA God) in case they’re religious, their conscience or to have that “I’m such a nice guy, yay me!” feeling.
And yes, I don’t donate to charity on principle.

The definition of socialism is the use of some degree of governmental/state control of the economics behind a good or service as opposed to private capitalism with the state not directly involved. Taxation to pay for something is one form of socialism.
I’m having difficulty understanding you here but you seem to be arguing you’d rather pay more for something than to pay less and let other people get free service out of what you paid, is that also true? Fire departments would cost more if they were individual-customer-pays because trying to fight fires in a customer specific service is much less efficient and effective than the normal public (socialized) system. We know this from the historical record of how badly and expensively the Roman fire department services worked, and this is one of the many good reasons that fire suppression in all the G8 countries is a public service.
