Curses…we still don’t know exactly what Bunker has in mind…will it be good, or evil? Will Bunker win the day, or Archie?

2 Kevin August 20, 2010 at 8:06 am

LOL! Loving “Archie”.

Well what other nickname would you use for an Evil Bunker?

Hmn…Gee, where does he keep his crystal ball?

I would totally go gay for Edward. Or Jacob. Whichever one is the werewolf. I despise Twilight but the werewolf is really hot I have to admit.

5 orald August 20, 2010 at 5:37 am

Thanks, now I understand who this “Edward” is.

I think edward is the vamp though..it is in http://fafnirthedragon.com/?p=1306 ;)

I meant that in the general “lame emo goth-wannabes from Twilight” way. I can hardly distinguish sheep apart, let alone those sort of…people.

Reply

8 Kroiden August 20, 2010 at 9:51 am

That makes two of us, Orald.
I have yet to see this Twilight-thing and after the guy that plays the vamp in the movies slammed it well and hard into the ground as total and utter shite, i’ll give it a full miss.

I haven’t seen it either, and don’t care to. It’s just so far out of my range of interests, even if the posters imply it’s choke full of nice-looking gay twinks in bad pale makeup(well the makeup part isn’t as part of “my thing” as the rest is).

So is the DM in the bathroom or something?

Reply

11 orald August 20, 2010 at 5:37 am

Probably so, and busy being gay for Edward.

Reply

12 Andrew August 20, 2010 at 5:38 am

Probably off writing his next NPC side story. :)

Reply

13 Kevin August 20, 2010 at 8:07 am

He’s probably talking, telling them something vitally important while the players ignore him and talk amongst themselves.

14 orald August 20, 2010 at 8:48 am

With Martin holding his own laptop, typing away furiously? Wouldn’t that make him just a little bit suspicious?

Reply

15 Ron August 20, 2010 at 12:30 pm

Not at all. Players typing on [place electronic device here] during DM exposition is normal – at least it is in the game I participate in. :D

Reply

16 orald August 20, 2010 at 12:49 pm

I feared my phrasing would be misunderstood and it has- by “his own” I meant the DM’s laptop, which is the only way he could alter the module on said laptop.

How about 2, 3, 3, 4 and similar combinations, the kind of password an idiot would have on his armory door? An idiot like one of my past army commanders.

Yea, but I had to share it with the world, it just always nagged at me.

I really hated that place besides, full of morons.
Anyone wants a detailed layout of the base and good timing for assault? I recommend Friday evening at around 18:00-18:15, that’s when the scant few guards(everyone else is home, it’s an “open base”) are at the mess-hall, apart from just one guy at the gate , and the mess-hall is halfway across from it.
Also included are locations for the huge above-ground fuel tanks(fuel-supplying base), located conveniently close to the fence, and oil and fuel sheds.

What? It’s not like I was planning something here.

Huh. Imagine, I actually asked that question before Bunker did. I must be getting a little clairvoyant in my old age. :p

Freja’s player must really love having access to a car… Is she bullied at home, or does she just live a really long way away from all the stores she likes to frequent?

I try not to be that level of jerk. Making a joke about suppositories here–like the comparatively tame, “Maybe she likes taking the DM’s penis as a suppository too?” for instance–would be more disgusting than some people who read this comic apparently would like.

Reply

28 orald August 22, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I don’t get it. I mean, I know what a suppository is, and I understand about the penis, but I don’t get the funny thing about it. To me it sounds not so different than just saying “maybe she likes his penis up her behind*”, which doesn’t make for much of a joke in these circumstances. Is it a reference to something else?

*Well, that’s for men, are there suppositories for vaginal insertion?

Ummm…I know all about artistic license and all that, but how is Martin summoning the GM’s laptop into the game world? Because I totally want that spell.

34 Christina August 20, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Wait, if you actually have someone’s password and access to their computer to boot (pardon the pun), it’s not exactly hacking, is it? Anyone could do that. Martin is just flattering himself. More proof that Martin is , at best, a script-kiddie.

Random thoughts: wow, Bunker’s chainshirt is getting rather figure-hugging in panel one.
So now we know who the sole male, heterosexual fan of Twilight is! The mind boggles.

Why is Bunker doing that posh posture in panel three? I feel like I should recognize that from somewhere but I’m drawing up a blank. What is its significance?

Reply

35 anonymous coward August 21, 2010 at 2:08 am

Yeah, I don’t buy the notion of a straight male fan of Twilight either: Considering how hard this GM was flirting with “Bunker” using his “hot half-troll” NPC I’d say it’s at least possible he’s gay for someone else eh?

Reply

36 orald August 21, 2010 at 3:59 am

With half the cast having a thing for Bunker it’s obvious that Bunker is so hot even the guys want him.

@Christina
“Random thoughts: wow, Bunker’s chainshirt is getting rather figure-hugging in panel one.”
See my above comment- even inanimate objects want him…or maybe just the persons who draw them.

I applaud you sir, your hypothesis plausibly fits the available evidence better than any other I can think of at this time.

Reply

38 Kevin August 20, 2010 at 10:01 pm

I think “hacking” is just replacing someone else’s file with your own. I’m pretty sure it still qualifies.

No significance to the pose. Sorry! I’ll try to pay more attention and make such things fraught with meaning in the future. ;)

Reply

39 anonymous coward August 21, 2010 at 2:52 am

Actual term is cracking but most of the world thinks it’s hacking despite that term actually meaning something rather different to serious IT professionals. If you want to know more look up the definition of hacking and cracking in Eric S. Raymond’s references.

Reply

40 Kevin August 21, 2010 at 8:42 am

Oh, okay. I thought cracking was bypassing a password or some other kind of security.

Reply

41 Eric August 21, 2010 at 11:27 am

Eh, I’m of the thought that a word means whatever most people think it means. One English teacher was telling me about all these formerly non-words that have been added to the dictionary over the years after so many people were using them. Then he was saying how he was waiting for a common mistake to finally appear in the dictionaries so he could stop marking it wrong on so many papers.

Reply

42 anonymous coward August 22, 2010 at 9:40 am

Generally yes, cracking is bypassing or breaking security restrictions. Since Martin isn’t an authorized password holder that would be bypassing.

Reply

43 anonymous coward August 22, 2010 at 9:55 am

Right… I get it now.
Sorry, there is a distinction between people who use technical tricks like brute force password guessing or memory overflow tricks to acquire access and people who use social engineering tricks like phishing webpages and just bald con-man style asking for passwords and pretending you have a right to get them to acquire access. That distinction is one that is not made in the terminology of cracking since the end result is the same: The security is compromised in both cases.
The terminology difference is that individual techniques of technical tricks are classified under technical names and cracks which rely on cheating the users, and admins and user-level features in a non-technical way (like making password reset requests with a stolen login ID to get a password and account that’s not yours) are called social engineering.

Reply

44 orald August 22, 2010 at 10:04 am

“Social engineering” sounds more like what totalitarian regimes like to do, which is unsurprising, since it’s got “social” in it, like socialism has. Evil, evil socialism. :x

Reply

45 anonymous coward August 22, 2010 at 10:18 am

Yeah, social engineering is a term I’d use for the way the Koch industries people created the teabagger movement in order to destroy all remaining environmental and legal barriers preventing them from doing offshore oil drilling off American coasts as cheaply and halfassedly as they could dream… but that would be socio-political engineering and we were talking about computer security.

Also, you’d be derailing the subject away from the dangers of evil, evil socialism.

:P

Reply

47 Elfguy August 22, 2010 at 12:43 pm

As a concept, Socialism isn’t necessarily evil…it’s when you try to impose it as a system of Government that things go sideways.

Reply

48 anonymous coward August 22, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Socialism is not a system of government. It is running one or more sets of product and service provisions in society with partial or complete government control instead of by laissez-faire, private capitalist means. An example of a common socialist arrangement is how the fire department and 911 dispatch services are funded out of taxation instead of people not putting out fires until someone whips out a credit card to pay for it.

Now that I’ve explained what socialism is for you I’d like to ask something of you and Orald: Please do not post factually incorrect propaganda slogans. Socialism can’t be evil since it does not have a soul just like any other form of economic organization. Socialism can’t make things go sideways as a system of government because it is not a system of government.

As a concept or ideal, yea, it’s great…but when you try to enforce it on a species that behaves almost opposite to it as part of its evolutionary “hard-wiring”, some “minor” problems are bound to rise.
So those people who’ve already seen several examples of such inevitable failures but still desire to confine humans to such a system are either dangerously delusional in their belief and high ideals, or just plain evil and power-hungry, usually the later, IMO, but the result is still the same.

But regardless, my main reason for mentioning how evil, evil socialism is is because I find it funny. And the fools who think themselves intellectually and spiritually superior(and soooo cool too!) for advocating it amuse me.

Reply

51 anonymous coward August 22, 2010 at 10:18 pm

Let me see if I have this straight… you think it would be a good thing if the fire department wasn’t supported by taxes but instead only starts putting out fires after someone has swiped plastic to pay for it?

52 orald August 22, 2010 at 10:44 pm

@anonymous coward:
Exactly! But please explain to me how paying taxes is only a product of socialism.
Taxes ARE “swiping plastic”(I’m guessing that means credit cards)- you pay the government and it arranges all those services because you paid for them, there’s no altruism here.
Just like you pay your internet provider to arrange everything for you instead of laying the pipes and cords yourself, installing satellites etc.
Just about everything is bought by your money, whether it’s a specific product/service you specifically want or something that’s included in your gov’s “tax-package”.

Sure, there are some loonies going around giving to charity(mostly by leeching it from others, stealing a bit for themselves and pressing the rest to the needy so they won’t get accused of embezzlement), saying it’s altruism, but it’s mostly to appease their imaginary sky-buddy(AKA God) in case they’re religious, their conscience or to have that “I’m such a nice guy, yay me!” feeling.
And yes, I don’t donate to charity on principle.

53 anonymous coward August 23, 2010 at 12:41 am

@orald, Aug 22 10:44pm
The definition of socialism is the use of some degree of governmental/state control of the economics behind a good or service as opposed to private capitalism with the state not directly involved. Taxation to pay for something is one form of socialism.
I’m having difficulty understanding you here but you seem to be arguing you’d rather pay more for something than to pay less and let other people get free service out of what you paid, is that also true? Fire departments would cost more if they were individual-customer-pays because trying to fight fires in a customer specific service is much less efficient and effective than the normal public (socialized) system. We know this from the historical record of how badly and expensively the Roman fire department services worked, and this is one of the many good reasons that fire suppression in all the G8 countries is a public service.

Gah mindwiped. Seems like the DM’s girlfriend is going to dump his ass which will fracture the campaign, or she keeps gaming and he keeps dropping rocks on her. There is no lesson there btw. Kevin your videos the last couple of times have been awesome, but I somehow feel like the new guys don’t actually know the material. Vader screwing a competent employee like that? He punishes assholes. Fucking over good guys is the Emperor’s job (love the clones tho – still Palpatine’s style). Thx for bringing up the dead peasants thing my company’s not on there but I’m sure they do it (aut0z0ne). And the DC guys seem to have sold both Batdude and teh Jokerz a bit short, mebbe just super power prejudice. Batdude woulda nuked, Joker is smarter than Lex, just a nihilist.
I leave you with some incredibly sad shit everyone who hates welfare should see:
