In the General Assembly of the United Nations, the United States joined radical Islamist regimes and the Holy Catholic Church in affirming the illegality of homosexuality earlier this month, giving the tacit nod to the 80-odd countries that will throw you in jail for it, and the six or seven that will kill you for it. Think about that next time you hear a politician saying that opposition of gay marriage is “only” about redefining the institution, but you are free to do whatever you like in the privacy of your own home. Our government has stated to the world that they do not believe this, and that they would rather see homosexuals jailed or murdered than tolerate them doing “whatever they like” in their own bedrooms. This is at odds with the laws of our own land.

The opposition to the push to decriminalize homosexuality, led by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, stated that this was an effort to “normalized pedophilia.” Okay, first… if you think that pedophilia is the same thing as homosexuality, or indeed is even related, leave the room now. You aren’t qualified to be having this discussion. Second, I would like to add my voice to the throng to legitimize homosexuality. Dude on dude sex is fine by me. Girl on girl sex is really fine with me… but that risks getting into a whole different conversation altogether. The point is, just because I don’t eat your flavor of ice cream doesn’t mean I think you shouldn’t have it, or that by my legitimizing it all ice cream is going to suddenly turn into your flavor and the grocery store will burn to the ground in a sudden orgy of unrestrained moral decay.
That’s just stupid.

Yet again, a perfect example of why separation of church and state is so important. Having a bunch of guys wearing turbans or bishop’s caps tell you having sex is immoral is VERY different than having your government kill you for doing it. When those same bunch of guys ARE your government, things get very, very scary.
